We were split into groups and told to produce a corporate video about Loan Sharks lasting for 3-4 minutes for our client that came into college. My production team consisted of our director Thaheema Khatun, assistant Director/team leader Amber Winspear, creative Director/storyboard artist/extra Amber Garland, extra Joshua Thorp and main actress Melissa Collier.
First things everyone in our group was devised different tasks for pre-production. The research part consisted of me gathering information about Cashbox Credit Union and companies who you can report loan sharks too. I did a similar corporate analysis starring a boxer, which you can see below. We then split up the production paperwork between us before we went filming. I was the main actor amongst the group playing the character of Natalie. The majority of the filming went to plan and I managed to stick to the storyboard when editing this. We were told to edit separately but we still all kept to the group ideas of our production. I kept the audio and video transitions simple and tried to use them as little as possible. I added credits in the description of the YouTube videos because not a lot of corporate films have them at the end. We had to make sure we had permission before filming in more public places such as buildings; our team's director sorted all that side of things out. When filming we made sure the camera angles was how we wanted them, in order to do this we filmed some of the same scenes from different positions. Then during editing, we chose the ones that I wanted to provide the right atmosphere and appeal. Some scenes what we filmed I didn’t use in my final edit because I felt they wasn’t needed to tell the story or the same action in a different location looked better. We wanted our props to be limited to keep it simple and our lighting to be bright so everything is visible. I thought about changing the lighting conditions when editing to make them look dark for the depressing parts of the video for example black and white but in the end decided against it so it's truer to life. To symbolise when my character was feeling down I just added sad music to that footage so my audience was aware of the mood change. I edited two versions of the corporate film, one being my draft and the other my final edit. In my first draft, I chose when shots out of the ones we had filmed best fitted the storyboard and looking appealing. Firstly I went through all the shots and chose the ones that I wanted before trimming them and putting them all in the right order according to the storyboard. I didn’t think I needed to adjust the colour or speed of the footage. I tried not to use too many transitions and where I did use them I made sure they were smooth and simple so things weren't over complicated. I ensured my jump cuts wasn’t too quick so the audience could take it what was going on without each scene not lasting long enough. I added narration throughout the video to tell the story from my character's perspective, which also tells the audiences what’s going on so there is no confusion or if they are blind. I added Cashbox Credit Union’s phone number and website address in a large, bold, white text on a black background at the end of the video. I chose the font size, text style, and colour scheme so it all stands out. I changed a few things in my final edit in order to improve my corporate film. At the beginning, I added a new scene of me and Joshua talking and I used one single running shot, which I slowed down the speed for dramatic effect. I did this because it was more relevant, I felt like the running shots in the first draft were taking up to much time. I got rid of one of the end interview scenes as I felt my facial expressions were too negative and therefore didn't match the music and voice over. I changed the library scenes to the ones that I re-filmed at college, I just preferred the way they look with the way I hold and flick through the books etc. I removed some of the narration, which I thought wasn't necessarily and cut parts of it up to fit what was happening in the footage better. I used more professional looking shots of me on a proper computer at the library when viewing the Cashbox website so people could see the text better. I also felt this was more appealing due to the lighting and framing. I used shots of me typing, viewing the website and then my facial expressions reacting to it all. I changed the end title font, text and background so that it's more eye-catching. I also added the college's logo in the top right-hand corner and Cashbox's logo in the top left-hand corner. To conclude I think I produce a suitable corporate film to the standard expected to the correct time frame. I did my research which I was set by my team leader and rehearsed certain scenes where needed before filming. I stuck to the storyboard and followed the assignment brief accordingly. I could have improved the final edit of my corporate film by changing the storyboard during pre-production so that it made more sense during the part where it went from Natalie failing her exams to needing to borrow money. I would tell our storyboard artist to add a scene in between them two of Natalie struggling financially; to show this she could open her food cupboards, which reveal that they are bare. In terms of editing it, I would introduce my character at the start of the video by saying her name; either mentions it in the voice over or in the text at the bottom of the screen.
